Backstory
My name is Teaira Curry. When I was in Head Start, I was taken away from my mother due to her battle with a drug addiction. When I went to foster care, I endured a ton of abuse. Mostly from my foster moms boyfriends and associates. By the time I was in elementary, I was already shown by grown men how to “properly” French kiss, introduced to rated x magazines, touched and then penetrated. This happened for the duration of my elementary experience.
As soon as I turned 18, all wanted to do was get married and start a family to show my babies the love that I lacked. To cope with the pain from my past, I’d drink lots of alcohol and unfortunately my vulnerability led me to dating the wrong men. One guy in particular showed me that even in adulthood, sexual assault is still a thing. He invited me and a female “friend” of mine to his house for a private party with his male cousin (they were blind dating). It was there that I was set up, drugged, raped and I contracted HPV with my cervical cells turning cancerous. At 18 I was so confused and depressed from the encounter. As I found out that all 3 of them (the boyfriend, cousin and my female friend) were all in on my set up. I felt as if my life was over. Who would want to marry someone that has an STD from another man and who would want to marry a death sentence due to the fact that cancer could take my life? Well, I was wrong. A good friend of mine went to the hospital with me on a routine health procedure (colposcopy/biopsy) to monitor my cells and he proposed to me right after the visit! I was shocked! Fast forward, I’ve been completely healed from the HPV, no cancer and my cervix is perfectly fine as my good friend and I now have had 10 babies together! And he is not just a good friend anymore, he’s my husband as well. We have been together now for 20 years and counting. God is so good! Thank you Lord!
I never did receive legal justice as a child or as an adult. But the way that I do receive justice is anytime someone purchases our book “Fed Up? Changed Up! Now What?”, listens to a podcast, invites me to conferences and church events to speak and or support my movement. Why? Because my husband and I are into preventative care and what we do helps the next person to avoid these sick and traumatizing actions.

Our Movement
Now my husband didn’t realize that he was a fellow Victor until we got to work on a solution to combat this but he was also assaulted as a child by the hand of his babysitter at age 9. This is why he has also decided to come to the forefront with me and we have created a safe dating/sexual assault prevention program for the youth and their parents. Its a course that gives both the male and female perspective on this matter, educates the students on the statistics of assaults, reveal the red flags, explaining the harm of false accusations, putting systems into place for safety measures and where to go to or what to do in the unfortunate event of an assault.
What happen to us can happen to anyone! Even if this is not your story, you have daughters, sons, relatives, coworkers and even friends that have experienced this or that will experience it according to the statistics.
Stats
According to the CDC, 1 out of 4 girls and 1 out of 20 boys have been sexually assaulted. And get this, these facts are only the REPORTED cases. 90% of these predators are someone that the family knows and trust. Assaults like these can lead the Victor into depression and suicidal tendencies to say the least. As this attacks the mind, body and spirit. We Need Your Support
My husband and I have a sponsorship program and yes we are looking for more sponsors. Our initial goal is to Coach our first 100 students. So far, we have 11 sponsorships! But as you can see, that is a drop in the bucket compared to the need out here. There are thousands of crisis units that address the aftermath of an assault, but not enough preventative care movements. That’s where we come in at. Each sponsorship is only $99 per student and that includes the parent or caretaker as well. But if you would like to make a general donation of any amount, this would be immensely appreciated!
Your Contribution Would Assist Us With…
-Transportation & travel cost to schools, churches, and community centers.
-Printed materials & workbooks to support learning.
-Educational workshops.
-Books written by us that detail real-life experiences and relationship red flags.
-Advertising to reach more families who need this message.
-Scholarships so that no student is left behind due to finances.
-Venue rentals for in-person sessions.
-Digital upgrades for virtual options in underserved areas (which are where a lot of these assaults take place).
With your help…
WE CAN help to combat this problem in America! If you would like to keep up with the progress of our movement, or if you have questions you can email us at ChangedUpNowWhat@gmail.com with “Sponsor” in the subject line. We would be honored to keep you informed!
